ABOUT US
We offer the opportunity to gather in community, with hearts open to the mysteries of love, and minds open to the wisdom of truth. Individually we come from a variety of religious backgrounds, but we are united in our shared mission, beliefs and principles.
We want all people to thrive and live with more wisdom and compassion.
Our Mission
We seek to be a place where each person’s unique worth and beliefs are acknowledged and respected and where each person’s voice may be heard – a place in which each may freely explore their own spiritual path.
We join with others in reaching out to make the world more just and commit ourselves to caring for each and all that makes up the web of life.
We strive to be a source of inspiration, a forum of exchange, a wellspring of comfort to those in need, and a nurturing, supportive community for each other and our children.
Our Beliefs
As Unitarian Universalists, we bring our whole selves, our full identity, our questioning minds, and our expansive hearts. Together, we create a force more powerful than one person or one belief system. Our beliefs are diverse and inclusive. While we have no shared creed, we are united in the free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
Unitarian Universalists believe more than one thing. We think for ourselves, and reflect together about important questions, while finding unity in commitment to our principles.
Our work for social justice; our quest to include the marginalized; our expressions of love drive us to dedicate time and resources to Environmental and Social Action efforts.
Our Story
Creating community through respect, advocating for values and practices that safeguard people and the environment, and exploring knowledge and spirituality from various sources.
Who We Are
At Durham Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, we have a unique approach to spiritual community that we believe sets us apart.
Unlike most organizations, our fellowship doesn’t have a paid ministry. We strive to be transparent with our finances and share responsibilities amongst members.
What truly sets us apart is our reliance on the power of volunteerism. The heart and soul of the fellowship are the dedicated individuals who generously contribute their time and effort. From leadership positions to various community responsibilities, every role here is fulfilled by volunteers who share a common goal: to support one another and serve the wider community.
We invite you to join us on this unique journey, as we create a warm and inclusive environment where all are welcomed and celebrated.
Environmental and Social Action
Through the vision and efforts of our Green Sanctuary committee, we became the first church in New Hampshire to have solar power. “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence” informs our environmental consciousness and our commitment to sustainable practices.
Social action activities are ongoing. We organize annual fund raisers to provide financial support for local agencies and non-profit organizations, assisting the under-served in our surrounding communities. We volunteer time, energy, and talents to food banks, homeless shelters, and primary school students. We are a participating community with Seacoast Family Promise, 68 Hours of Hunger, and donate space to support socially responsible community action and education forums.
In supporting our fellowship members, we have a Caring Committee engaged in supporting individual and family needs.
World Community with Peace, Liberty, and Justice for All
Striving to cultivate a harmonious and just global society where peace reigns, liberty is cherished, and justice is accessible to all, fostering an inclusive environment.
Acceptance and Encouragement of Spiritual Growth
Our community embraces and supports spiritual growth, promoting acceptance and encouragement as essential values in our shared path.
Respect for the Interdependent Web of All Existence
In our congregation, we emphasize respect for the interdependent web of all Existence, recognizing the profound interconnectedness of all life as a guiding principle.
Search for Truth and Meaning
We emphasize the pursuit of understanding and purpose, nurturing a culture of curiosity and self-discovery.
Inherent Worth and Dignity of Every Person
At our fellowship, we celebrate and uphold the inherent worth and dignity of every person, embracing a core principle that guides our inclusive and compassionate community.
Justice, Equity, and Compassion
Justice, equity, and compassion are the cornerstones of our Unitarian Universalist community, guiding us to work together for a fair and compassionate world.
Freedom of Belief and Democracy
At our fellowship, we champion freedom of belief and active democratic participation, promoting a welcoming space for diverse viewpoints and engaged citizenship.
The Durham Unitarian Fellowship is a wonderful family of kindness.
