Giving Back: Nurturing Communities, Sustaining the Earth

At Durham Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, we believe in the transformative power of collective action, where every act of giving back creates a ripple effect of positive change. Our commitment to making the world a better place extends beyond our sanctuary walls, echoing in the community and resonating with the Earth itself.

Environmental Stewardship: Pioneering Solar Power

In January 2016, we made history as the first house of worship in New Hampshire powered by on-site solar panels. Our 13-kilowatt solar project, managed by Barrington Power, has reduced our carbon footprint. This endeavor reflects our profound concern for the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change, aligning with our faith-based principles.

Respecting the Interdependent Web: A Green Sanctuary Commitment

Our Green Sanctuary committee continues to drive our environmental consciousness, inspired by the principle of “respect for the interdependent web of all existence.” Beyond solar power, we actively seek and implement sustainable practices, fostering a harmonious relationship between our community and the planet we call home.

Social Action: A Beacon of Hope in Our Surrounding Communities

Our commitment to social action is woven into the fabric of our fellowship. We organize annual fundraisers to provide crucial financial support to local agencies and non-profit organizations, reaching out to the under-served in our surrounding communities. Our volunteers dedicate their time, energy, and talents to food banks, homeless shelters, and primary school students, embodying our principles of justice, equity, and compassion.

We are proud participants in community initiatives such as Seacoast Family Promise and 68 Hours of Hunger, actively contributing to the well-being of those in need. Additionally, we open our doors to socially responsible community action and education forums, believing in the power of informed dialogue to create positive change.
